Opening a joint account

It’s easy to open a joint account with us. There are no long forms and no new ID checks.

If your app isn’t showing the person you want to open a joint account with, you should check:

  1. You’re running the latest version of the Monzo app.

  2. Both of you have Find profile by phone number switched on in your app settings. To do this, go to Privacy & Security then Profile privacy.

  3. You both have a UK account, not a US account.

  4. You have the same phone number saved for the other person as we do. Sometimes even a small difference, like adding a country code (like +44) can cause problems.

A few things to note

At the moment we only offer joint accounts if you’ve already got a personal account with us.

Once you’ve opened a joint account, we won’t be able to close your personal account, without also closing the joint one.

We also can’t convert a joint account into a personal one. So if one person wants to close the joint account, we’ll close it for both of you.
