The police called and asked me to make a payment. Is it a scam?
It's very likely that this is a scam.
The police will never call and ask you to make a payment. Also, fraudsters can ‘spoof’ or fake the police phone number to make it look real when it appears on your phone. They might also pressure you with calls claiming to be from a local court, or threats of arrest if you don't pay now.
We recommend calling the police on 101, the non-emergency phone number. You can then ask them if the call was genuine.
