Turning 16 with an Under 16s account
Your child can use your Under 16s account until their card expires – even if that’s after their 16th birthday.
We’ll cancel their card when they turn 18.
Your child can apply for a free 16–17s account anytime after they turn 16. Monzo for 16–17s get almost everything adults get, with blocks on borrowing and age-restricted things to keep them safe.
If they have linked their email address to their Under 16s account, and want to use it on their 16-17s account, you'll need to close their Under 16s account before they apply for their own account.
ℹ️ Please note: Ts&Cs apply, UK residents only.
